    Dear Sir
We are restoring Lupton House – the ancient manor house home of Sir Nicholas Upton (who lead the famous charge against the Turks in Malta) in Devonshire, U.K.
Please do you have any information about him – we are spending £1 million on restoration work and would like to include some information about Sir Nicholas Upton and his life and times in Malta for our new Heritage Interpretation Centre; if you know of any organisations in Malta that would like to forge closer links with us we would be very interested to co-operate.
    Many thanks
    Graham Glynn (Heritage Interpretation.)

      Dear Mr. Glynn,
My name is Mark Upton, I presume Sir Nicholas as an ancestor and possible direct relation. I’d like to speak with you and share history and details… please Google, Upton Family Record:Being a Genealogical Collection for an Upton Family History, by William Henry Upton, (1893),my grandfather William and his father, William are on p. 132 and 393. Sir Nicholas is in there also. There’s a lot about Sir William online, including a detailed account of his death, burial and memorial at Malta. I’m in touch with Ms. Howard, the manager at Lupton.

  3. Dorothie Elizabeth Upton says:

In my fathe’s Upton of Northholme of the County of Lincolnshire family tree I see that Sir Nicholas Upton Knight of Rhodes who died without issue is recorded as being the second son of Nicholas Upton, deceased 1535 and Margaret duaghter of Hamon Sutton of Burton County of Lincolnshire and the younger brother of Hamon Upton. Certainly there is a strong verbal memory of Sir Nicholas of whom we are all very proud and of his defence of the island of Malta. Also my great aunts, living on the East coast, told me of the movement of some of the family towards the west of England but the original Upton family are from Lincolnshire and Norfolk and remained there, also I may add in a relatively prosperous situation. I think Lupton Manor as the home of Sir Ncholas is probably wishful thinking on some people’s part.
